WHO ARE YOU?

I'm Jaz. I'm all about fulfillment-fuelled success and my WHY is centered around growth and contribution.

Having overcome massive adversity I choose life! I see problems as challenges - opportunities to get curious, ask questions and throw myself into a journey of discovery that might lead to failure. I'm comfortable with failure being a crucial part of learning.

Also, I'm Marmite. I get that some people find it difficult to be around me because of my insatiable desire to make a difference. One boss called me a 'poking stick' which I'm taking as a compliment.

Life begins just outside your comfort zone and we all need a poke now and then!

WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

I'm in a hammock in my garden. Why?

WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?

Oh, hold on. I get it now. Ask me that last question again.

WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

I run my own consultancy business. I boost literacy skills on primary schools and run in person and online leadership and T&L coaching. Mainly I'm a catalyst helping people identify where they are now, where they want to be and their next steps to get there.

WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?

This is a timely question. I'm going for ancestral origin here because for the first time today - I can!

I'm brown. My biological Mum has declined to tell me anything about my biological dad. Up until 18 I had bigger things going on in my life, like trying to survive a violent and torturous home life. After that I was more concerned with living my best life so I've spent a long time ticking 'Other (please specify)' on the ethnic minority tick nbox question.

Actually, I add Caramel Taupe in brackets - it does ask for specificity.

But today my results came back from AncestryDNA.com and I can say that I'm originally from Benin! I'm still processing that and am not sure what it means to my identity yet but will be unpicking that in my unconscious bias workshop at the BAMEed conference.

For the full story you can watch this video of me finding out my results...

HOW DID YOU OVERCOME ANY OBSTACLES/BARRIERS?

Try. Fall. Heal. Solve. Strengthen. Celebrate. Share. And repeat!

What advice/messages do you have for others in the same position?

Wow, please get in touch! I've spent a long time thinking I was the only one. Turns out I'm not. Let the revolution begin!
