Why have an ex teacher presenting?

On Saturday September 16th I will be leading a session after lunch on "leaving teaching", so am I trying to get you all to leave? No.

So, why am I attending and presenting?

For the last two years @vivienne‍ has spoken and made that key link that attending weekend #education events is admirable and provides CPL Continuing Professional Learning, For those events to be classified as CPD (Development) the learning must be put into action and #develop. Her challenge in 2016 was to return and share how we the attendees  have used what we learnt a year ago.

That's why I am going to my third #pedagoohampshire‍  the first I travelled from Essex to attend, then Dorset as I support the #teacher5aday‍ initiative.

Since September 2016 I have left teaching because my #mentalhealth broke. In November 2016 I snapped and have been unable to return to teaching. My final service is according to the Teacher Pension Agency - 28 years 120 days. I am disappointed that I can no longer teach. I have however had a year full of learning experiences which I have applied to my life.

So,I shall be there to share ideas linked to #mentalhealth‍ and how if it impacts on you, you might manage it so that you don't break and have to leave as I have. I will share what I have done to rebuild my life.

I now hold a part time seasonal job that plays to my strengths and allows me to work outside. I have also launched myself as an artist - a word I found difficult to use initially. I have now started to have commercial successes both locally and internationally. I continue to have ongoing #mentalhealth issues and belonging to support groups.

P,ease say hi if attending - my clothing will tell you who AndyKnillArt is and I won't even need my cloud suit to do it. I will be displaying a range of my work produced in 2017 for perusal and / or purchase. Items will range in price from £2 to £150. Payments may be made by cash or card or just feedback is also welcome.

@misseaston I built a reputation for being open about my #mentalhealth through my personal blog and have presented about it previously. If others can learn from my experience then it is worth sharing it.

Thank you for sharing your blog, Andy and for speaking openly about mental health.

I, for one, would be interested to hear from you because your heart was and always will be that of a teacher. This is not just reflected in what you did within your subject but also in the teach meets you facilitated / participated in as a way to help the development of others.

I therefore look forward to seeing you and your art work at #pedagoohampshire.
